Cynthia Gordon-Floyd is the founder of Willing Steward Ministries, LLC (WSM), a Bible-centered ministry focused on the effective and efficient financial management of churches and other Christian organizations. She is a sought-after speaker, trainer, and financial expert who equips leaders to properly understand and execute church financial policies and procedures, stewardship principles, new ministry start-up strategies, and IRS requirements for churches and other non-profits.
Prior to forming Willing Steward Ministries, Cynthia spent more than twenty-five years in corporate financial management, serving in various executive positions in the publishing and insurance industries. She is a former owner and member of Restore Media, LLC, a Washington, DC–based magazine publishing and tradeshow production company. In 2008, recognizing a critical need following the 2007–2008 banking and financial crisis, she launched CGN Ventures, LLC, a real estate investing and property management firm dedicated to purchasing, renovating, leasing, and selling investment properties to provide quality housing for affected families. Through CGN, Cynthia purchased, renovated, leased, and resold more than two million dollars in real estate investments.
Cynthia is extensively educated and certified. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Lake Forest College and a Master of Business Administration in Accounting from DePaul University. She is certified as both a public and non-profit accountant, with memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Virginia Society of CPAs. Additionally, she is a Certified Fraud Examiner licensed by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and a Certified Internal Auditor licensed by the Institute of Internal Auditors.
Deeply committed to serving her own church, Cynthia has been a member of First African Methodist Episcopal Church of Manassas since 1991, where she served as a Steward and as the Chief Financial Officer/Financial Secretary for thirty years. During her tenure, she revamped the church’s financial policies and procedures, creating a strong financial environment and strengthening internal controls and security. Her efforts included implementing new financial reporting practices, introducing zero-based budgeting, and launching a new membership and financial accounting system. Cynthia also helped secure a two-million-dollar loan to construct an educational wing and negotiated a refinance package that resulted in more than twenty percent in monthly interest savings for the church.
In addition to leading Willing Steward Ministries, Cynthia serves as the facilitator and instructor for Willing Steward Academy, the educational arm of WSM. She designed and teaches a two-part certificate program that introduces church leaders—both clergy and laity—to best practices and legal requirements in church financial management. She currently writes a church financial management column for The Christian Recorder and serves on the Board of Directors for various ministries, including Goodness Village and Child Evangelism Fellowship of Virginia.
Cynthia is the proud mother of two wonderful young adults, Ashlei and Branden, and has been blessed with a son-in-love, Nicholas. Passionate about every aspect of ministry, she fully embraces her calling to serve the Body of Christ through financial ministry.
Her favorite scripture is Matthew 7:13–14 (NIV): “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”
